How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner Properly

Eye makeup instruments mainly consist of eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. Each of them has to be carefully applied to beautify eye color, but you have to also make sure that everything blends nicely on your facial skin.

One of the most difficult instruments to apply is liquid eyeliner. Here is a step-by-step guide for you on how to apply liquid eyeliner properly.

1. Eyelid primer

Before every other eye makeup is applied, you should use moisturizer to cover the entire facial skin, expect on eye areas. Liquid eyelid has to be applied above eyeshadow.

If you want to have the best result of color combination, the use of eyelid primer is necessary. It avoids oiliness yet it improves longevity of overall eye makeup. Eyelid primer and cream eyeshadow makes the foundation for liquid eyeliner.

2. Eyeshadow

After applying the eyelid primer, use your eyeshadow. Some people think liquid eyeliner will be very difficult to remove. The truth is both cosmetics can easily come off. You can also use cosmetic cleanser to remove everything from your facial skin. There are also some products manufactured specifically to remove eye cosmetics.

3. Liquid eyeliner

Take your liquid eyeliner and open the tube. Please make sure that the tip of the pen is free from dirt or clump. Even small dirt will create a smudged look.

It is recommended that you hold the eyeliner with your non-dominant hand. If you are right-handed, hold it with your left hand or vice versa.

4. Drawing dots or dashes

To make the whole process easier, you should draw dashes or dots along the eyelid. You also need to draw the dashes as close as possible to the eyelashes. These dashes will be used as guidance for you to draw the continuous line. During this process, your hand does not need to be really steady as you will repeat the process again later. Go from the inner corner to the outer corner for both eyes.

5. Continuous line

Moving to the next step, draw a continuous line following the dashes/dots you have created. In this step, your non-dominant hand will possibly do a better job. Put your elbow on a table and try to move your head as close as you can to the mirror.

You may need to do this for a minute or two, so make sure you are in a comfortable posture. As usual, you need to draw thin line on the inner corner and gradually draw thicker as your hand moves to the outer corner of the eyelid.

6. Thicken the line

To avoid mistakes, you may want to draw a thin line on the eyelid at first, and then you can thicken it when you are ready.

7. Make corrections

In some area of the line, the liquid eyeliner may not be as perfect as intended. Nonetheless, you can always make some corrections if necessary. Dip a cotton bud into eye makeup remover and gently press and roll the cotton bud on the spots you need to repair.

Conclusion

Applying liquid eyeliner is actually very easy, but some people may still need good guidance. You may wonder about how to apply liquid eyeliner like a professional does. The most important things are that you cannot rush it and you can always make some corrections at the end of the procedures.
